Rolex Datejust 36

Rolex has introduced some quiet, yet notable updates to two stellar models within the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 range. From now on, the Datejust 36 yellow Rolesor and Everose Rolesor models come with minutely updated cases and, more importantly, new dial options, along with the Oysterclasp with its Easylink 5mm extension link and the very latest generation of Rolex Manufacture Calibers 3235. We must emphasize the fact that for the time being it is exclusively the yellow gold and Everose gold "two-tone", Oystersteel-combined pieces that receive this update.

The Datejust is one of the most versatile watches ever made: dressed up or down, as they say, it adapts to any setting with brilliant ease. Within this special collection, the Datejust 36 arguably holds a that much more precious position: its size renders it a perfect fit for men and women alike, with the dial choice – and wrist size – allowing the Datejust 36 to perform spectacular transformations.

Presented in Rolesor, Rolex's special combination of 18ct gold and Oystersteel, further emphasize this fabulous versatility. The two models we are looking at today display the two ends of the spectrum in terms of available designs: one is in Everose Rolesor, while the other in Yellow Rolesor, the former on the triple-link Oyster bracelet while the latter on the five-link Jubilee bracelet.

The bracelets on both have been updated to feature the Oysterclasp and its Easylink 5mm comfort extension after the concealed folding Crownclasp that lacked an extension system. Where the Jubilee offers a timeless, classical aesthetic, the Oyster arguably is the more contemporary and perhaps a tad more casual of the two – but, we shall make it very clear, both perform superbly well under all conditions and on all occasions.

The dial options have been renewed as well. Consequently, these two models can be differentiated from previous versions by the 9 o'clock index: from now on, this index is set with brilliant-cut diamonds as well – whereas on previous models the 6 o'clock index on its own had been adorned with the precious stones. The hands are 18ct gold as well, and so are the other indexes, all applied by hand over the sunburst finished, subtly brushed dials.

The movement has been updated to the Rolex Manufacture Caliber 3235 from Caliber 3135. This new caliber, at the forefront of Rolex watchmaking expertise, now offers an extended power reserve totaling approximately 70 hours – up from approximately 48 hours in the previous generation Caliber 3135. The now 3-day power reserve allows these new Datejust 36 models to last through an entire weekend, from Friday night to Monday morning, if need be. And they shall keep excellent time while doing so: like all Rolex watches, the Datejust 36 in Yellow or Everose Rolesor are Superlative Chronometers, certified by the independent COSC chronometer testing institute and each subjected to Rolex's own, especially thorough in-house quality control tests that include a daily accuracy rating between -2/+2 seconds per day.

Water resistance in the mildly updated Oyster cases remain 100 meters, sufficient to withstand all water activities one might encounter in daily life and keeping the precious movement safe from water and moisture.
